Suburban services not running between Darra and Roma St. Diesel hauled trains still running through to Corinda.
Some photographs around Darra this morning. All going well but as expected some unhappy punters. I watched the pax transfer from terminating down train at Darra to the buses.
QR Passenger Staff, security staff and TTOs all in attendance. Is well organised but I expect many not aware of the closures.
Highlight for me is the down coalies (full) running on the UP line. This is an unusual working. The last few photographs show a down coalie on the UP! :)

Temporary platform UP from the pedestrian bridge has been started. This will allow re-construction of the new platform 2/3 structure. Some of the infrastructure on the present platform 1/2 is being removed.

I have just come back from Darra.
Here is a photograph the helps explain the arrangement. Looking west end of temporary platform.
To the left the main line (road one) that goes underneath the double coming down from Richlands (centre formation). Road 2 goes roughly where the temporary platform is (note the very wide OHT). Road one and two form a single line near Centenary Highway and the crossings back to the existing mainlines around Bullock Head Creek. I understand these lines will all be electrified as well.
A better arrangement would have been maintain the quad through to Wacol.

The temporary platform is gone. The extra go card reader on the edge of platform 2 west looks like a temporary fixture. Surface cabling would suggest that, probably to give a second reader whilst the eastern end of platforms 3/2 closed. Expect that reader will be moved down the other end when eastern access available.

Another work weekend at Darra. Platform 4 is taking shape. Framework for the station office buildings taking shape eastern end of platform 4. Ramp will be well protected from the weather, the station canopy has been extended similar to the platform 2/3. Subway is being worked on, more OHT supports being positioned down from Darra. By the look of the track bed for the Richlands branch track laying is not that far away. The OHT supports on the rail bridge over the Ipswich Highway have been positioned for a while now.

The present Darra foot bridge is to be replaced. This bridge is possibly the lowest foot bridge on the system. And a great photograph location!

The foot bridge proved to be very difficult to demolish. It needed a hydraulic ram on tracks to finally break bridge section free.

Station office on platform 4 nearly ready. Subway will be open tomorrow morning. Final touches being made to stairs for access to platforms 3 and 4. Lifts will not be operational tomorrow morning. Trees and gardens being established along the rear of platform one.
Big changes for Darra rail station tomorrow morning (Monday 23rd). Foot bridge has been demolished, normal access from the west (Ipswich) end now closed. Access will be via the subway at the City end of the platforms. This means that some folk will probably be caught short for time. It now takes a few minutes to walk down to the subway from the car park. This change has not been widely notified to Darra station commuters.

The only major issue at the moment at Darra (apart from the fact it is in a construction zone) is that only one go card reader coming off platform 3. There was a temporary one at the bridge exit plus a permanent one so that two in effect. Now only one and is causing some delays.

Had a look at Darra today. All coming together nicely. Great to see a temporary go card reader on platforms 2/3 east in addition to the one on the stairs, thanks TransLink. Went in Wednesday I think. Early works have started for the new footbridge (west) as well.

Busy weekend at Darra Station. Subway closed to allow painting and finishing. The lift to platforms 2/3 may be open Monday morning.
Shuttle mini bus running to and from Bowls Club as subway closed and it is a bit far for some through Manburgh Tce pedestrian access.
Pile driver machine for the footings for the new footbridge has finished on the UP side now on the DOWN side.

The ballast train today came into Darra via Darra West and the UP SUB loop, into platform 1 road Darra. Then pushed back onto the UP branch line. This was the first train to do this.

All the fences have been removed from the platforms. The lift for platform 4 will be operational tomorrow morning.
Noted SMU207 (driver training) running DOWN on the MAIN UP (platform 3) as well. Sign of things to come with the bi directional capability now.
The station and the precinct is starting to look a lot better. I would not be surprised to see trains running on the subs (up and down) in the not too distant future ...

New footbridge for Darra is being positioned this weekend. Sections being off loaded from trucks. Number of 100 tonne cranes in place.
Signals have the white crosses removed on the UP and DOWN sub lines. Looking good for next week for some trains? Freight to help settle the tracks??

The subway looks great actually. Nice and clean look.
Meanwhile the lifting of the bridge started after a few minor delays. The first section to be lifted into early position was the stairs from platforms 2 and 3. A tricky lift with the signal gantry, overhead wires, lights etc. The section was moved under the gantry so that it can be lifted/connected to the span when that is put in place.
The crane is a tower crane. First one I have seen out this way. Has extra reach and lift capability, although it would be the reach the important issue today.

In the space of an hour, two up coal, three down coal, and one down loco train.
It seems these days more freight movements on the western line between Corinda and Ipswich than passenger trains.
It used to be in the order of about 40% freight, I think it is probably about 50 - 55% now ..

Darra service platform 2, this service was converted to the 8.28am Ipswich service, the normal train ran into platform 3 and pax moved over. Possibly the first Ipswich service to depart from platform 2 in the new life ... :)

Go card readers, one at the western end of platform 2/3 and one at the western end platform 4 next to the stairs for the footbridge have been positioned. Work still continuing with the footbridge, not open yet.
